A RITUAL for CONNECTION

What flowers or herbs connect you to a feeling of home? To your lineage? To yourself?

**

If you are able to, see if it feels aligned to bring these flowers or herbs to your home or place of stay, whether fresh or dried. Place the petals or leaves in a bowl of water or bath. Offer a prayer of gratitude to their life force.

**

Immerse yourself in the bath or pour the water over your head, if safe to do so. Rest for some time with the flowers or herbs. Allow yourself to connect with them, their healing properties, the visions they offer, their stories & experiences. Listen with your heart.

**

When you are finished, offer the flowers / herbs back to the earth or waters outside.

**

What did you notice about your inner world, your experience of connection or disconnection to yourself, to the flowers & herbs, to your lineage?

**

If you are not able to connect with the herbs or flowers physically, connect with them through meditation & vision: imagine their textures, smells and spirit. Rest in their presence this way.

**

REFLECTIONS

In these times of threshold, I share today's letter as an offering to enter ceremonial time and connect with lineage.

In ceremonial experiences, time can become elastic, space can hold multiple realms. We are able move beyond the limitations of a 'day-to-day' mindframe - whether it is through ritual, music, nature, communal gathering, prayer etc.

I find that I am able to directly tune into my ancestors and the spirit world to receive & connect with their wisdom. These experiences are often healing, transformative and sacred beyond words.

Even in moments of despair and disconnection, I truly believe in the power of sacred spaces of ritual & creative connection to support us in living in freedom, healing and care for all beings.

MY JOURNEY

‘My journey’ shares some of my practice creating sacred space in my everyday life. In sharing aspects of my intimate, inner world, my hope is to support you in connecting with the vulnerable, sometimes hidden spaces within your own being.

**

As I walked alongside the ocean this August, in being present with its infinite flow and waves, my spirit was moved - I was brought deep into a lineage of my grandmothers, alive and present in the ever changing waters of the ocean before me and within me. I felt a mix of longing and love, of grief and joy, of connection and disconnection - as I reconnected to home within.

A LINEAGE OF CAREGIVERS

I wrote this poem, both to honor the calling of the ocean and its expansiveness across space and time, and to connect with my lineage, who I felt were speaking to me through the waves & horizon.

LINEAGE

I walk with

rising tide on sand

A daughter of daughters

A mama in womb lineage

I long for my grandmothers’ grandmothers’ stories

Time imprinted and erased

In the landscape around my eyes

reckoning & moving with today

In the face of eternity

Watching ocean waves

I trust they are here

As we grow into ourselves

And grow with the earth’s story

Becoming the ocean wind

Once unsure of our hands’ craft

Light now emerges from

Their geometry of care

I pick up a shell

With the color of lilac in her lines

And place them in a small pool

Created by sand and current

Source of source

Coming home

Reflection: What lineages do you feel most connected to in your life? What lineages do you long to feel connected to? What supports you in nurturing this connection?
